Open Wounds, Open Heart

"Then he (Jesus) said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out
your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." (John 20:27)
The nerve of Thomas to doubt Jesus. He had been walking with Him for nearly 3 years yet Thomas still needed to see to believe. Jesus could have easily gotten an attitude and told Thomas where else he might put his finger. But why didn't he? Could it be that Jesus was sympathetic to Thomas; knowing that he needed to see his open wounds in order to open his heart?

Leaders who fail to allow their followers the opportunity to see them naked, exposed, vulnerable miss a golden opportunity to win the hearts of Thomases. I am not advocating that leaders lower their standards or allow their weaknesses to be a dog and pony show for mockers. I am however advocating for transparent leadership that allows sincere followers like Thomas to open their hearts unto God and their leader through vulnerablity.

Consider the example found in Hebrews 4:15. " This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all the same testings we do, yet he did not sin."

God wants us to be naked and not ashamed.
